Finding The Time

Today was one of those days. You all know the days, where you feel like you have a zillion things going on and there just isn't enough hours in the day.

Hitting the Reset Button

I was dealt a card that I don't like. After training so hard and then 3 weeks away from my provincial competition I had to withdraw. It was worse than getting lemon in a wound. Ouch! There are always worse things in life but I am stubborn and I wanted to compete.

Truth is life is not always what we want it to be

Banish "Perfection" From Your Workout Vocabulary

Stop trying to find the "perfect" week to start exercising, or assuming that every workout has to unfold perfectly as planned. If you can't make your spin class, or do your entire gym routine, don't abandon ship altogether. Go for a walk, do a modified gym routine, or do a few body weight exercises at home.

Set measurable and realistic fitness goals

I'll admit, I've been slacking with the treadmill lately. There is a lot going on in my personal life that is causing me some stress and I can't seem to get up in the morning (although walking on the treadmill would probably make me feel better). I need to get back on my work out schedule. One thing I find helpful to keep me motivated and get me back on track is setting goals. If you have a goal you're trying to reach, it gives you a great reason to step onto that treadmill every morning.

Try activity outside your comfort zone

Allow yourself to step outside the box. Get out of your comfort zone and explore. I recently went to a conference and learned there are more sports out there than I have ever realized, especially on a high competitive level. The amount of women playing tackle football at an elite level is amazing. We have a competitive handgun team, slalom kayaking - all amazing within their own right. I never would have found powerlifting if I hadn't stepped out of my comfort zone. I think more sports should be introduced and explored so people know what is out there.

You Want to Be Healthier? Make it Non-Negotiable

Recently, a number of people commented that they envied my "discipline" and "dedication to my health." The comments caught me slightly off guard -- to be honest I don't really consider myself particularly disciplined.

100 LBS LOST

When I think of 100 I think of, 101 Dalmations, or 100 day countdown or 100 ways to do something. I never think of 100 pounds lost. That number is seriously still so ridiculous to me it is funny.

Find the push to keep you going

Let's be honest here. I don't find walking or jogging on the treadmill all that exciting. Walking or running outside in the fresh air with different scenery may be fun, but that's not an option right now. Staring at the empty cement walls in my basement is not particularly something I look forward to. But I know I need to stick with the treadmill. So I get on it, but after a few minutes I'm bored!

I Don’t Need Fixing

Lately I have run into a bunch of people who seem to think I need fixing. But I am not broken, I am not sick, I am quite well thank you. There seem to be two types of people: those who accept my vision loss and those who don't understand vision loss at all and pity it. There is nothing to pity unless one pities themself. I do believe my condition has led me to be the woman that I am today, which is not a bad thing. I choose only to see the positive attributes. Hopefully it will help me grow stronger as a lifter too as I use my senses, such as feeling the muscles fire, to grow stronger and lift more.

Finding Solutions Not Excuses

It's back to school and time for fall activities to start. For many people, including my clients, this means packing lunches for their kids, acting as a chauffeur and putting healthy eating further down the priority list. You may be trying to enjoy the nice weather or get outside to move your body, but find that you're too busy. Whatever reasons or excuses you have for not eating healthfully, there are many possible solutions when you're motivated to change.
