Let's be honest here. I don't find walking or jogging on the treadmill all that exciting. Walking or running outside in the fresh air with different scenery may be fun, but that's not an option right now. Staring at the empty cement walls in my basement is not particularly something I look forward to.
But I know I need to stick with the treadmill. So I get on it, but after a few minutes I'm bored! If exercising is not something that you are instinctively fond of doing, then you need to find ways to keep yourself at the task at hand.
If possible, trying setting up a TV near your treadmill. You could watch TV or movies to pass the time. Lots of treadmills today have an iPod hook up, so you can blast some tunes to keep you going. It is possible to dance and walk at the same time, trust me.
For me, sometimes just listening to tunes is not enough. So I started bringing down the iPad and watching videos on YouTube. All of a sudden 30 minutes of walking had passed of walking and I had barely noticed. Awesome! I can totally do this. And maybe I can even increase my walking time.
Whether it's TV, music or even reading a book as you walk, find something that will keep you motivated to finish your workout. You've already made that commitment to get up on the treadmill or and exercise, so once you're there you gotta keep at it!
